Client – Santander Bank
Challenge and approach
Santander UK has been producing sustainability reports for many years. One of the key audiences for these reports is the investor community and in 2019 Santander approached us to help it develop an ESG-focused supplement to help communicate its narrative, strategy and results in a succinct and focused way.
The starting point was developing a strategic framework that brought together Santander’s purpose, sustainability pillars, commitments, key material topics, and its commitment to the UN SDGs. The framework helped to connect these elements in an easy-to-follow and understand format to help engage key audiences. The ESG Supplement is a streamlined publication that represents a summary of performance data put into the right strategic context.
Results
The ESG Supplement and the process of its development empowered the Santander team to lead a different type of conversation with its investors – a conversation based on strategic direction, key material issues and performance on these against selected metrics. The focus on impact and results achieved is today central to this dialogue.
